I wanted to reach out to keep you updated with where we are at Clayton-Bradley Academy with our athletics. We have grown so much this year and I believe our trajectory is only going to go up from here. This is due to the initiative and drive of our student athletes and leadership of our great coaches and administration. Not to mention the flexibility of our parents as well. We are definitely in unprecedented times and athletics are at the mercy of decision makers that know what is best for everyone. We have had multiple meetings and discussions on what we were going to do at Clayton-Bradley. We have researched what other conferences and schools are doing as well.
With that being said, we have decided that there will be no sport seasons this Spring. The soccer conference (Knoxville Independent School League) announced last week that they cancelled their season. The Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association, which most of the schools our tennis team plays against are in, left it up to the local school, but encouraged them to follow government guidelines when making their decision.
This is obviously not the way anyone wanted to end the school year athletically. We believe that we have made the correct decision in giving our students, coaches and families the best chance to stay healthy. We still want to offer something for the spring sports to our students, so here are a couple of opportunities that the coaches and I are looking into:
Virtual workouts with the students and coaches.
Challenges given by coaches to students for them to complete and turn in to coaches.
Practices run like they were supposed to once we get back to school.
Inter Squad/Intramural type of season/tournament amongst CBA students and having "CBA 2020 Champion(s)."
Setting up a couple of matches with local schools.
These last few items will have to be once and if we are allowed to have these type of gatherings.
So, keep an eye out for an announcement. As soon as we make a decision we will let everyone know.
