Thursday was 8th Grade Night for 6 of the Middle School Volleyball Players. Bergen Erickson, Olivia Campbell, Georgia Hatcher, Keya Patel, Ellie Rittenhouse and Sonora Rodriguez got to celebrate the night with how it finished. The Lady Blazers finished the regular season with a win against The Knoxville Ambassadors 2-0, with scores of 25-23 and 25-13. CBA has now won 7 matches in a row! They are now 8-2, tying a Clayton-Bradley record for wins a season by any sports team.
Coach Cheyenne Burnett was very pleased with her girls, "The greatest thing that happened tonight is that no one person stood out. We talked before the game about how the lineup was going to look different with it being 8th grade night. It created the necessity for them to comminicate and support each other on the floor to get the win. That is exactly what they did. Literally every girl who played in the game tonight made a big play and their teammates were right there celebrating them. There were moments of confusion of unsureness, but they came together and bounced back every time. I am so proud of how each game they improve upon things we work on in practice and how they have set the standards so high for themselves and consistently put in the work to be better. Sonora stepped up in a huge way tonight, filling in for one of our back row players who could not be here. Ellie made a big play with a hit up front that she has been working on. Gerogia scored on good serves in the first set and Keya's serving, again, was great, as well as Brylee."
These young girls have truly learned what it means to play team offense and it has really shown over the past couple of matches. They are looking to set each other up, calling out what play they are making and using each other's names. They are ecstatic about how the season played out, but want to finish in the post season even stronger. They are 8-2 overall, but more importantly they are 6-1 in The KISL Division 2, where they finish the regular season in 2nd place. With this being the case it means that CBA will host their first round matchup, announced at Saturday's KISL meeting, and could host the next round if they win Monday's match. Stay tuned as information comes out.
