Yes, their serves are pretty and poweful. Yes, they have great effort plays. Yes, they have great hits. But what proves that the Clayton-Bradley Middle School Varsity Volleyball team's 7-0 record and #1 standing atop the KISL Division 2 is their energy and communication with one another. You can bet on 8th graders Haylee, Mia, Brylee, Maddie and Eva to make amazing plays and 7th graders Ellie and Nyah to step up and help the team when needed. But, the difference, if you will watch is how they lift each other up before, during and after points are scored. Phrases of, "You got this, come on ladies, it's ok next point, great job, talk to each other, let's go!" echo in every gym they play in. Even non verbal commmunication of high fives, special handshakes, pats on the back and huddles, eye contact and facial expressions that they display will show you that this is a true team who cares for one another and wants to win.
Last night they had non-division matches with CAK and Maryville Christian because Coach Burnett, "Wants to challenge these girls and play some of the best teams around." The Lady Blazers dominated the first match with CAK, winning 25-11 and pulled away in the end of the second set 25-23. In the second game it was a rematch, one week later, with rival Maryville Christian, who CBA beat at their place on August 23rd. This time it was much closer and an intense game. The girls came through in both sets, winning 25-22 and 25-23!
8th grade setter Brylee Condee, who made many great touch passes, dives (as always) and scoring plays, shared her thoughts on the night, "I thought we played hard on defense, despite missing a starter. We took the energy from our rivalry with Maryville Christian and put it to use in the match. In the second set with them we hustled to get every point, one at a time. We worked as a true team tonight to strategize and win."
CBA is back on the court Thursday at First Baptist, with JV at 5 and Varsity at 6.
