The High School Girls had a great week of play, going 2-0 this week, with wins against Tennessee School For The Deaf on Tuesday and Temple Baptist on Thursday. With the best fan section that CBA has had, the Blazers were able to harness their energy to win back to back games. They started off with their M.O. of playing a strong first set, winning 25-19. Then the Blazers dropped the second set 25-12 due to Temple Baptist's best player dominating with powerful hits. Going into the third set, CBA reset their minds, adjusted to Temple Baptist's style of play and finished off the night, winning the next two sets 25-21 and 25-19.
Senior Middle Hitter Riley Whitecotton had many great hits on the night, as well as serving on the final two points for the win. She shared her thoughts, "As a team we have been working really hard on our attack power, as well as rotation. The win highlighted the way that we have improved our movement and rotation on the court. It also showed how well we fight back, even when given a challenge that we did not expect in the second set."
Coach Whitecotton was pleased with her girls, "I am truly proud of our team. These girls pulled off some amazing saves and beautiful plays. Watching them work as a team and communicate is really fulfilling. They are realizing that they can beat people. It is not an accident. The "miracle plays" made me smile. Those moments when all hope seemed lost, but someone would put that extra push into their effort and then a save, a hit or even an ace resulting in the point for our team, instead of just letting loss of a point happen to us. That is real growth. That is knowing each other. That is being there for a teammate that has thrown themselves to get a ball and knowing that it is your job to get it over. You do not want to let them down."
The Blazers have 4 wins on the season, as they head into a few days of rest before being back on the court at South Doyle on September 7th, for a rematch of a close contest at CBA last year.
