9 girls will be suiting up to compete for The Clayton-Bradley Academy High School Tennis team this year. Coming off of a winning season in Coach Z's first year in 2021, where she had great leadership and experience, the Blazers are going to look a little different. But, they have returners and good players that should have a strong showing for this season. The team has new home courts, at John Sevier, that are much nicer and gives more of a competitive vibe, instead of just on park courts. They have been working hard on conditioning, skill work and practice matches the past couple of weeks as they get ready to serve up the 2022 campaign.
In her 2nd year Head Coach LuAnne Zelaskso is looking forward to the season and shared her thoughts on what is coming up for her ladies, "This coming season is going to be exciting and challenging. We are a young team with only two seniors. But we do have some experienced tennis players new to the team which will help us in matches. Many of our players are beginners and are progressing well to learn to play tennis. I honestly expect this team to be competitive with most of the teams we play. Having so many younger players their is a huge learning curve to learning the strokes and then applying that to playing in matches. Our senior captain Hannah Rasmussen brings leadership and experience to the team. Cailey Martin our other senior will help us with our depth chart. I expect good matches from sophomore Sophie Daniel and Freshman Natalie Kim, both experienced players. The rest of the team is improving and as the season goes on they will only improve even more and we will become a stronger team. Our goal is to improve on our 6 wins last year and for our young team to grow stronger."
The Lady Blazers start next week and we cannot wait to see how they do. Be sure to come out to one of their thirteen matches during the beautiful Spring season and cheer on our girls.
