Clayton-Bradley's Middle School Flag Football team had been dominant in their first two games, with barely a challenge. On Monday night Saint John Neumann was within one score after the start of the second half, with a pick six, to make it 18-14. Coach Nick Starkey shared how his team's focus led to victory, "The second half started off rough, with the pick six to start the half on a good read. We were just a step behind the ball. We were upset, but we came right back with a couple runs and a screen to Faiz that broke free for a huge 40+ yard TD. Asher made a smart play the next drive and didn’t stop until the whistle when SJN quit early on a fallen flag. He scored on a 30 yard rush due to just playing through the whistle. We were significantly more disciplined and more comfortable on the field. Our kids knew where to be and how to respond. We are headed in the right direction. We have a great flag football community. It makes it easy to coach and for the students to follow.
The Blazers are on fire in their first three games, outscoring their opponents 111-20. The defense has been fantastic and hard to score on. They keep giving the offense more chances to score. They believe that they are a serious threat in the KISL.
