Clayton-Bradley's Middle School Flag Football team got their second win on the season Thursday night over Saint John Neumann 32-20. It really was not even that close. They Blazers were on fire and got up 32-8 before the Mustangs scored late twice. Big plays were made that helped give the Blazers the win. Wide Receiver Asher Wagner on a 38 yard strike from Quarterback Michael DeMarchis, that was really a 50/50 ball that Wagner brought down to keep the drive going. Wes Williams and Faiz Boghani solidified the short game with great hands and never giving up on the play, both finding the end zone and scoring on the night. Jacob Rutherford and Konnor Kirkland made several hustle plays in the backfield, assisted by Tevy Magnuson's relentless pursuit of the QB. The tag team of August Burger and Asher Wagner floored the opponents on the perimeter rush all night. Making his first start at QB was Logan Robbins, who had good looks down field and got valuable time learning and growing his game.
Coach Starkey was very pleased with his team and described the keys to the big win, "Our passing attack was amazing and the inside rush was unstoppable. The player and plays of the game for me was from Grey Andresen. He had 3 pass break ups, 3 tackles and an interception that turned into a pick 6! He displayed the mentality of a champion one drive after dropping a deflection near CBA's own end zone. He came off the field, and said, 'One more, just give me one more, the next one is mine.' He went out and jumped a deep corner route on a critical possession and turned up field, his teammates following him into the endzone the whole way."
The Blazers move to a 2-2 record and have a chance with their remaining schedule to finish strong with a winning season. They take the field Monday night at 6:15 at Knoxville Christian School against Paideia.
Go Blazers!
