Athletics have been activated again! The 2020-2021 school year is starting back with Fall Athletics allowed to play, with a little bit of a twist. Currently under the Governor's latest "no contact" phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic, that is scheduled to last at least through the end of August, Volleyball and Cross Country are good to start pre season practice in preparation for their upcoming seasons starting in August and September. The school will be follwoing CDC, State and Conference guidelines that will allow them to have practices, meets and matches. Items are being cleaned, temparatures are being checked and air high fives are happening as the new normal. Preparations are being made by administration and coaches so meets and matches can be safe and successful as they look to see more historic events happen. Coming off of a year where over 60% of the student body, in 3-12th grade, participated in athletics and new records were set by individuals and teams, the school is ready to build on the foundation that has been set.
Flag Football, on the other hand, is considered a contact sport. With that being the case, they will be a club this year and focus on building their fundamentals and relationships. Their success as a popular program in the school and in the Knoxville Independent Schools League will continue to happen under the direction of Coach Nick Starkey. They will host a "non contact" ball skills, drills and conditioning workout twice a week for CBA 3-8th graders until fall break.
"We are so happy that our students and coaches can get back together and participate in their Fall sports. It has been a long time since we have been able to compete and we are so ready for it. The last time that we competed was in February, finishing up basketball season. Our Spring sports did not even get to get into their seasons. But from then until now workouts have been done at home, meetings have happened online, and I want to give a big shout out to our coaches, athletes and families for being flexible and making things work during that time. Now it's time to look forward and get back to work in person," Athletic Director Grant Redmond declared.
Be on the lookout for schedules coming soon, as well as the Fall Team Shop, a "Media Day" and team pre season team articles.
